Making a Partial Loan Repayment

Sometimes you don’t have enough to clear the full balance at once — and that’s okay. KiddyCash lets you pay off part of your loan and chip away at what you owe over time. This is useful when your wallet has some funds (say, from your weekly allowance or a kiddy business sale in Nairobi) but not quite enough to settle everything in one go.

Before you start, it helps to view your current loan details so you know exactly how much is outstanding, whether any interest has accrued, and what the minimum repayment amount is — if one has been set by the adult who approved the loan.

Steps to Make a Partial Repayment

  1. Open your loan repayment page. Go directly to https://kiddy.cash/loans/{loanId}/repay, replacing {loanId} with your actual loan ID. You can find the loan ID on your loan details screen. This takes you straight to the repayment form without navigating through multiple menus.

  2. Check your available wallet balance. Your KiddyCash wallet balance is shown on the repayment screen. If you’ve received funds via M-Pesa or an allowance deposit, confirm those have settled in your wallet before proceeding — pending transactions won’t be available to use.

  3. Enter a custom repayment amount. In the amount field, type the amount you want to pay now. This must be:

    • Greater than zero
    • Less than the full outstanding balance (if you’re paying in full, see how a child repays a loan for that flow)
    • At least the minimum repayment amount, if one was configured on the loan

For example, if you owe KES 800 and your wallet holds KES 300, you can enter 300 to make a partial payment.

  4. Review the repayment summary. Before confirming, the screen shows you:

    • The amount you’re paying now
    • The remaining balance after this payment
    • Any interest or fees that will be applied

Read this carefully. Partial repayments may not reduce your interest the same way a full settlement would, depending on how the loan was structured.

  5. Confirm the payment. Tap Confirm Repayment. You may be asked to enter your transaction PIN or use a transaction code if the loan terms require it. This is standard for payments above a certain threshold in your account settings.

  6. Check the confirmation screen. Once processed, you’ll see a confirmation showing the amount paid, your new remaining balance, and a transaction reference number. Save or screenshot this — it’s useful if you ever need to query the repayment with a parent or guardian.

  7. Repeat as needed. You can make multiple partial repayments over time. Each payment reduces your principal (and sometimes interest) until the loan is fully cleared.

A Few Things to Keep in Mind

  • Wallet must have sufficient funds. KiddyCash won’t let the payment go through if your wallet balance is lower than the amount you’ve entered. Top up first if needed.
  • Loan status updates immediately. Your remaining balance refreshes as soon as the payment is confirmed — no waiting.
  • Parents can see repayments. Your guardian or the adult who issued the loan will receive a notification when you make a partial payment. There are no hidden moves here.
  • Kiddy business accounts follow the same flow. If the loan is tied to your business rather than your personal wallet, make sure you’re logged into the correct account context before starting.
