How to delete a child savings goal
Deleting a goal is a permanent action — once removed, the goal’s history, progress, and any attached milestone badges are gone. Before you proceed, make sure you’ve reviewed the goal’s current status (see how to view a child savings goal) and confirmed that any accumulated funds have been redirected or withdrawn to the child’s wallet.
When deleting makes sense
Goals sometimes outlive their purpose. Maybe your child in Nairobi saved up for a school trip that was cancelled, or a KES 5,000 bicycle goal was replaced with something more urgent. Deleting keeps the goal list clean and prevents confusion when reviewing progress across multiple children. If the goal is still relevant but needs adjusting, consider editing it rather than deleting — deletion is final.
Before you delete
- Withdraw or reassign any saved funds. KiddyCash does not automatically return funds to the child’s wallet when a goal is deleted. Move the balance manually first.
- Note any linked allowance contributions. If you’ve set recurring allowance splits toward this goal, those rules won’t delete automatically — you’ll need to update the contribution settings separately.
- Screenshot milestones if needed. Badge progress tied to the goal won’t be recoverable.
Steps to delete a savings goal
-
Open the goal directly. Navigate to your child’s goal using the deep link format:
https://kiddy.cash/family/kiddy/account/goal/:goal_id— replace:goal_idwith the actual goal ID shown in your app URL or copied from the goal’s share option. -
Go to Family, then select the child. From the KiddyCash app home screen, tap Family, choose the child whose goal you want to remove, then tap Savings Goals to see their active goals listed.
-
Select the goal. Tap the goal card to open the detail view.
-
Open goal settings. Tap the ⋮ (more options) icon in the top-right corner of the goal screen.
-
Tap “Delete goal”. A confirmation dialog will appear. KiddyCash will display the current saved balance and warn you if funds haven’t been moved yet. If the balance is non-zero, you’ll be prompted to confirm you’ve handled the funds.
-
Confirm deletion. Tap Delete to finalise. The goal is removed immediately and will no longer appear in the child’s savings dashboard.
What happens after deletion
The child’s wallet balance is unaffected if you moved funds before deleting. Any M-Pesa contributions that were scheduled toward this goal via transaction codes will need to be manually updated or the codes deactivated — orphaned codes can cause confusion when parents or relatives send money expecting it to fund a goal that no longer exists.
