How to read an unread notification

When something important happens on KiddyCash — such as a child completing a savings goal, a parent approving an allowance, or a transaction code being used — the platform sends you a notification. Unread notifications are ones you have received but not yet opened. Reading a notification marks it as seen and moves it out of your unread list.

This guide walks you through reading an unread notification step by step.

Before you start

Make sure you can access your KiddyCash account. You can receive notifications in two ways:

  • In-app notifications — visible when you log in to KiddyCash on a browser or the mobile app.
  • Push notifications — alerts sent directly to your phone, even when the app is closed. If you have not set this up yet, see how to add a device for push notifications.

What is the notification inbox?

Your notification inbox is the central place where all your KiddyCash alerts are collected. Think of it like an SMS inbox — every message from the platform lands there. Unread notifications are usually marked with a badge (a small number or dot) on the bell icon in the app. You can go directly to your inbox at kiddy.cash/notifications.

Steps to read an unread notification

  1. Log in to your KiddyCash account. Open the KiddyCash app or visit the website and sign in with your phone number or email address. This works whether you are a parent in Nairobi, a school administrator managing student wallets, or a business running a campaign.

  2. Open your notification inbox. Tap or click the bell icon at the top of the screen. This takes you to your notification inbox. If you are not sure where to find it, follow the guide on how to open your notification inbox for a detailed walkthrough.

  3. Find your unread notifications. Unread notifications appear with a highlighted background or a bold label — they stand out from ones you have already read. You may see alerts about allowance approvals, KES wallet top-ups via M-Pesa, badge awards, or KYC verification updates.

  4. Tap or click the notification. Select the notification you want to read by tapping it (on mobile) or clicking it (on a browser). The full message will open.

  5. Read the notification content. The notification will show you the details of the event — for example, “Your child Amara spent KES 150 at a school canteen” or “A new transaction code has been generated for your family wallet.” Read the message fully.

  6. Confirm it is marked as read. Once you open a notification, KiddyCash automatically marks it as read. The highlighted background will disappear, and the unread badge count on the bell icon will decrease by one.

  7. Take any follow-up action if needed. Some notifications include a button or link — for example, to approve a spend request or review a campaign result. Tap that button to act directly from the notification.
