At KiddyCash, our goal is to help the next generation of Africans become financially savvy. Whether you are a parent setting up a weekly allowance in KES, a school managing student badges, or a business owner running a youth-focused campaign, security is our top priority.

To ensure a safe environment for everyone and to comply with regional financial regulations (such as those set by the Central Bank of Kenya), we require all adult users to complete Identity Verification, also known as Know Your Customer (KYC). You can learn more about the legal reasons for this by reading our blog post on /blog/why-we-require-identity-verification.

Verification is required before you can perform “real-money” transactions, such as funding a kid’s wallet via M-Pesa or withdrawing funds to your bank account.

What is KYC?

KYC stands for “Know Your Customer.” It is a process where we verify that the person behind the account is who they say they are. This prevents identity theft and ensures that KiddyCash remains a trusted platform for families and schools across Nairobi and beyond.

Before you begin

Make sure you have one of the following valid, original documents ready:

  • National ID Card
  • Passport
  • Alien ID (for residents)

Ensure you are in a well-lit room and that your mobile device or computer has a working camera.

Step-by-Step Verification Guide

Follow these steps to verify your profile:

  1. Access the Verification Dashboard Log in to your KiddyCash account. Navigate to your profile settings and select the “Verification” tab, or go directly to the Identity Verification portal.

  2. Select Your Document Type Choose the type of identification you wish to use. For most Kenyan users, the National ID is the fastest option. Ensure your document is not expired and is physically present with you; we cannot accept photocopies or digital screenshots of IDs.

  3. Upload or Capture Document Photos You will be prompted to take a photo of the front and back of your ID.

    • Place the ID on a flat, dark surface.
    • Ensure all four corners of the document are visible in the frame.
    • Check that there is no “glare” from overhead lights hiding your details or photo.
  4. Complete the Liveness Check To ensure that the person holding the ID is the account owner, the system will ask for a “Selfie.” Follow the on-screen prompts—you may be asked to turn your head slowly or blink. This “liveness” test ensures that a static photo isn’t being used to trick the system.

  5. Confirm Your Personal Details The system will attempt to read the text from your ID automatically. Review the extracted information (Name, ID Number, Date of Birth) to ensure it matches exactly. If you are a business owner or school admin, ensure these details match your official registration documents.

  6. Submit for Review Once you click “Submit,” our compliance team will review your application. Most accounts are verified within a few hours, though it can take up to 48 hours during busy periods.

Multi-Portal Users

If you use KiddyCash for multiple purposes—for example, as a parent and as a school administrator—you might wonder if you need to do this twice. Please refer to our guide on /kb/kyc-for-multi-portal-users to see how your verification status carries over between different portals.

Troubleshooting

If your verification is not approved, it is usually due to a blurry photo or a name mismatch. Do not worry; you can try again. For a list of common errors and how to fix them, visit our guide on /kb/troubleshooting-verification-failures.

Once verified, your account will be fully unlocked, allowing you to manage subscriptions, distribute transaction codes, and empower your children with their first digital wallet.
