How to delete a child task

Removing a chore from your child’s task list is straightforward, but there are a few things worth understanding before you tap delete — especially if the task has pending rewards or is part of a recurring routine tied to your child’s wallet.

Before you delete, confirm you have already reviewed the task details. If you are not sure what the task currently looks like or whether it has been completed, view the task first so you do not accidentally remove something your child is in the middle of. Similarly, if you need a refresher on how tasks are structured in KiddyCash, the guide on how to create a task for a child explains the fields and reward logic in full.

Before you delete

Keep these in mind:

  • Completed but unpaid tasks — If a task shows as completed but the reward has not yet been credited to your child’s wallet, deleting it will not automatically trigger the payout. Approve and pay the reward first.
  • Recurring tasks — Deleting a recurring task removes all future instances. Past completions and any badges already earned remain in your child’s history.
  • Badges — If a badge was tied to this task, your child keeps any badges already earned. Deleting the task only stops future badge progress on that chore.

Steps to delete a task

  1. Open the Tasks section — From your family dashboard, navigate to the Tasks tab. You will see all active tasks across your children.

  2. Select the child — Tap the child whose task you want to remove. This filters the task list to show only their assigned chores.

  3. Open the task — Tap the task name to open its detail view. You can access a task directly using its unique link: https://kiddy.cash/family/kiddy/account/task/:task_id Replace :task_id with the actual ID shown in your app or browser URL.

  4. Tap the options menu — In the top-right corner of the task detail screen, tap the three-dot menu (⋮).

  5. Select “Delete task” — A confirmation dialog will appear. Read it carefully — it will tell you whether any unpaid rewards are attached.

  6. Confirm the deletion — Tap Delete to confirm. The task is removed immediately and will no longer appear in your child’s active task list or on their wallet activity feed.

After deleting

Your child will not receive a notification that the task was deleted unless you tell them. If this chore was part of a savings goal — for example, a Nairobi-based parent using KES rewards to help a child save toward a specific item — consider replacing it with a new task rather than leaving a gap. Building consistent habits early matters; the KiddyCash blog covers why saving habits matter most when learned young and offers practical guidance on how to teach saving step by step without the lectures.

If you manage multiple children or use M-Pesa to fund wallets in bulk, deleting a task does not affect scheduled top-ups or subscription cycles — those run independently.
