How to view a loan from the family dashboard

The family dashboard gives you a single view of every loan linked to your family account — whether a loan is still running or has already been repaid. This guide walks you through how to find and read loan details from that central view.

What is a family loan in KiddyCash?

A loan in KiddyCash is a funds agreement — either issued to a child through their wallet, or tracked between family members. Loans can carry repayment schedules, interest settings, and status tags so you always know what is owed and by whom. This is useful whether you’re managing school fees in Nairobi, tracking a KES 500 advance you gave your teenager, or reviewing a completed repayment.

Before you start

Make sure you have:

  • A KiddyCash account with Parent or Guardian role
  • At least one child added to your family profile
  • At least one loan created (active or completed)

Steps to view a loan

  1. Open the KiddyCash app and log in with your parent account credentials.

  2. Go to the Family Loans page by navigating to https://kiddy.cash/family/loans. You can also reach this from the main dashboard by tapping Family in the bottom navigation, then selecting Loans.

  3. Review the loans list. You will see a table of all loans associated with your family. Each row represents one loan.

  4. Tap any loan row to open the loan detail view.

  5. Read the loan summary. The detail screen breaks down everything about that specific loan (see the table below).

What you will see on the loan detail screen

FieldWhat it means
Loan nameA label you or the system assigned when the loan was created
BorrowerThe child or family member who received the funds
Principal amountThe original amount issued, e.g. KES 1,000
Outstanding balanceWhat is still owed at today’s date
Repayment scheduleDue dates and instalment amounts
StatusActive, Overdue, or Completed
Interest ratePercentage applied, if any was set
Transaction historyA log of every repayment made against this loan

Understanding loan statuses

  • Active — The loan is running and repayments are ongoing or upcoming.
  • Overdue — A repayment was missed. You may want to follow up with your child or adjust the schedule.
  • Completed — The full amount has been repaid. The loan is closed and kept for your records.

Tips for managing multiple loans

If your family has more than one child with loans, the individual detail view only shows one loan at a time. To see all loans side by side, read how to view all family loans for a consolidated overview.

If you want to understand how one child’s borrowing compares to another’s — for example, to decide who is ready for a larger allowance advance — see how to compare loans across children.

Common issues

I can’t see the Loans section. Your account may not have Parent-level access. Check your role under Settings → Family Roles.

The loan I created isn’t showing. Pull down to refresh the loans list. If it still doesn’t appear, confirm the loan was saved — a loan draft is not the same as a published loan.

Amounts are showing in the wrong currency. KiddyCash defaults to the currency set during family onboarding. You can update your currency preference under Settings → Family Preferences.
